I'll share a real scrump twist on this recipe which came about by accident and want of a few ingredients. Soak the (uncrushed) biscuit layer (cake rusks are even yummier) in a cup of strong coffee. Omit bananas and layer as usual. Voila you have a bastardized version of tiramasu......

A handy sub for custard is a pack of egg pudding beaten to a custardy consistency after the preparation and setting. A pack of whipped cream folded into this pudding-custard makes delicious topping for trifles of all kind.
