Geeta Basra

Well I've only seen her in a catchy music video from "The Train". Been looking her up on the net and I haven't found much yet. I have a strong suspicion that its a one off thing and more credit needs to be diverted towards the make-up artist :)
Although the song is great and Ms. Basra looks stunning both in the song and in the shorter skirts that i keep hearing about, probably the only 'tanned' face which is looking good on-screen these days (considering the whole tanning bandwagon hitting bollywood since Dhoom 2). But still I would not recommend the movie! Check out the linked movie review.

Designing Relational Database Systems

Relational databases are tricky beasts. Other kinds of commercial software are infinitely easier to understand. Word processors are really just high-tech typewriters, and it's pretty clear that the backspace key beats that little jar of white stuff cold. Spreadsheets present a familiar enough paradigm, even to non-accountants, and email is close enough to the postal system for the model to be comprehensible.

The book is divided into three sections. Part 1, Relational Database Theory, covers the fundamental principles of the relational model. This is where the really ugly, theoretical stuff is. But don't worry; it will get easier. Part 2, Designing Relational Database Systems, examines the analysis and design process—what you should do to get from the real world to a reliable database system design. Part 3 discusses the most important aspect of a database system from a user's point of view: the user interface.

Operation Silence

Last eight days in Islamabad sum up the dilemma we face as a nation and as Muslims in today's world. At crossroads between progress or an ultra-conservative approach towards life, we stand divided. A fear has engulfed us that modernization is sweeping away our national and religious identity. It's quite obvious that our heritage is a culture of tolerance, mutual respect and traditionally conservative values. The need of the hour is to establish that we can progress without breaking away from our heritage. It is this fear of losing identity, that is driving many among us towards religious extremism. For those people, causes for change are the enemy. But what they don't realize is that the world will change as it has for centuries, whether they resist it or adapt.

House M.D.

Though I'm lagging behind seriously on this one, just finished Season one on DVD but loved the attitude and the doc. Ofcourse the "House-isms" are amazingly true and worth remembering. He is the complete anti-doctor from the impression we normal associate with guys in white coats. The continuous abuse of the 'caring' and 'devoted' team, the pill popping part and ofcourse skirmishes with Cuddy and the clinic patient are the core of this program.

Find out more about House M.D. on wikipedia.

I'm not happy with the fact that I can't find anyone seeding season three. Come on! Its a good show people! Although i'm curious about the show is going ratings-wise, eversince Studio 60 met its premature death, but i'm still not going to look it up. Season 4 starts September 25th :)

Knights in shining black coats?

What a lovely win-win situation we have put ourselves into! It amazes me how the whole fracas is being portrayed as a win for all the parties involved. I just went through the situation with my own imaginary comb trying to see if I could think up of some interesting (maybe not so true) implications of this historic decision by our all-so-powerful institution. Just my own view of how this effects everyone around the CJ saga.

what's it about?

A pinch more than a blog, recipes from aafia's little black book, a track of where we've been trotting off to and pictures to go with.
